The really cool thing about my workplace here at the university is not that it’s full of really smart people (Remember Watson’s rules for doing important science: “Never be the smartest person in the room“). No, the coolest thing is that we’re all a bunch of geeks ready to do fun extraordinary stuff. We went on an illegal BBQ, smoked a hookah next to the rhine, we’ve survived the rotten shark, and now, we’ve done Formal Friday.
The idea behind Formal Friday was quite simple. Other workplaces have, of course, casual friday, where people dress down a bit. At the university, more casual than usual is simple not possible, however. So, we thought we turn the concept upside-down, and create Formal Friday. To make things more interesting, we combined this day of work in formal gear with an apéro after work (TGIF!), and then continued to a fancy cocktail bar.
You can find more pictures of the event here. It was great fun, and many more people than I’d have expected participated. The really weird thing was that people actually behaved a little more formally that day, and it brought a big smile onto everyone’s faces.
