I changed a few little things in the layout of the pages. After the first, quick and (somewhat) dirty set-up, where I coded all the templates in a few days, I discovered some things that should be changed, and changed them.

It takes a certain time of working with the blog, and reading it as well, before those little details that you didn’t get quite right the first time start really poking you in the eye each time you see them.

The major complaint I had regarding this blog was that the text was running too wide, expecially for something that you are supposed to read on-line. Thus, I narrowed the text boxes now in th category and archive views, as well as in the single entries.

Another poke in the eye came from the main font (the “Brotschrift” in typographic german…). While it looks nice on my computer at home, it looked a little bit different on every computer. I should have known better than to use a font that’s not available on every machine, and that gets so-so replacements instead. In many of these replacements, font scaling was a major aesthetic pain. I now use Verdana, or Arial, or a generic sans-serif for the main texts, and hope that this looks nicer on the majority of platforms.

A little thing that I added also is a new class for boxed quotes, and I’d like to conclude this article with a quote that I heard last week which describes the motivation for this makeover.

“I don’t consider this a failure. I rather think of it as partial success.” B. Testa

See how nice the box integrates into the flow of the text? Ahhhh, it’s just beautiful, and the same box can be used to pull out key sentences from the main body of text. And yes, you’re guessing right, this here is just filler text to make the box look more integrated.

There is, however, a further, glaring omission from my blog. As my friend Joseph, who blogs over there, remarked, one big aspect of my life is not reflected in the blog. Music. I love music, both passive and active. I have a weird (or nicely put: eclectic) taste in music, and I have been studying, writing and performing music for more than 10 years. But no category. I promise, though, as soon as I find the time, I will add that category and some content in it. CD reviews will for sure be found there, but don’t expect any top-selling Britney CDs there ( is Britney still a top-seller? Recent evidence [1][2][3] suggests no. [and completely unrelated: this is what Britney likes to have backstage at a concert] ).
Anyways, I am getting side-tracked. The important thing is: Coming soon, you’ll find information about the music I am listening to, the music I am writing, and maybe even a few samples of things I am working on right now. So stay tuned!
