This post is provided for your own safety and comfort

Posted by Michael on June 14th, 2008

Really. Your safety is our number one concern. Therefore, may we ask you for your own safety and that of your fellow travelers to only take one drink at a time? And for your own comfort to clean up your mess after use? And while you’re at it, please fill out this self check-in form, [...]

Notes from the Pacific Northwest

Posted by Michael on June 11th, 2008

A few things are surprising about the Pacific Northwest. First and foremost, there is an incredible local density of caffè, as in the variety of brown beverage produced in Italian espresso machines. This is striking, to the point that you will pass little shops on the wayside selling fishing permits, firewood and espresso. No joking.
Another [...]

Hanging out in the Northwest

Posted by Michael on June 10th, 2008

After a few days of conferences in Portland, Oregon (Schrödinger User Symposium), we are now taking a week off to travel the Pacific Northwest.
Even though the weather hasn’t really been very cooperative, it is a ray of light in our busy schedules. Time to relax and look out on the ocean. Or to sit in [...]

S’pore Part II

Posted by Michael on December 7th, 2007

I’m in Singapore. It’s monsoon season. It rains a bit. C. wanted to know how much. Here’s how much (Orchard Road).
The weather fortunately keeps changing quite dramatically during the day, and the picture below was taken on the same day on Raffles Place.

I have no idea what happened [...]

Valencia by night

Posted by Michael on June 6th, 2006

In my last post, I promised some more pictures from Valencia. In the meantime, I have found out that the network connection I am using here is a bit shaky, the access point comes and goes, seemingly at random. Let’s hope I can put these pictures up, though.
In the end, I wanted to venture out [...]

Paella Central

Posted by Michael on June 5th, 2006

I have been invited to give a presentation at a workshop adjoined to the HealthGrid 2006 conference. Fortunately, it seems, the EU organizers of this conference really like moderate, mediterranean climates, so they decided to have the conference in Valencia, Spain.

Vancouver Part III – The Lost Days

Posted by Michael on September 5th, 2004

I have been busy, enjoying Vancouver to the utmost, so I didn’t have that much time to blog. Let me make up with a concentrate of my experiences in Vancouver. First of all, I naturally was partially occupied by the conference, but I did have enough time to see quite a bit of Vancouver, which, [...]
