Michael Podvinec: Professional Interests
Posted by Michael on April 30th, 2007I am interested in the interface between life sciences and information technology, and how information technology can be applied to solve biological problems.
My background is in molecular biology, but computers have been part of my daily life since I was about 9 years old, and I see them as a powerful tool and at the same time as a fascinating toy.
A grand summary of my research interests would be a sentence like this: I am trying to understand the exact molecular mechanisms of how molecules that enter our body from the outside (as part of the food we eat, the pollutants we’re exposed to, the drugs we are prescribed to take…) trigger changes in our body’s metabolism.
